SMS FFA Chapter President, Brent Long, welcomed the members and guests to start the ceremony and following the invocation, numerous awards were given out to the students and sponsors.

Awards given out were for the various competitions FFA members participated in this year. The Chapter competed in 13 total career development events, three leadership conferences, Suwannee FFA Alumni events, the Suwannee County Fair, and two grant opportunities. Scholarship and leadership awards were presented for members who have excelled in the classroom and in leadership positions as well as the Discovery Degree Award.

Kaitlin Van Heusen, SMS FFA Advisor, says, “We had a great year.  The Chapter has seen many accomplishments and many students participate for the first time in FFA.  By getting those new students active, we are building a future for our Chapter.  Many students will return next year to continue the FFA tradition here at SMS.  Students are always encouraged to do their best and learning is always our goal.  There has been so much growth this year that I want my students to build on next year as active members.”

Van Heusen would also like to recognize Katelyn Floyd, who will serve as a leader at the state convention in the state Courtesy Corps and was selected from 200 applications. Van Heusen added that Ragan Chauncey is receiving an award at the state convention for her Landscape Management Proficiency Application. The Chapter is waiting to hear the news on three other awards submitted.

The FFA State Convention is in Orlando at Caribe Royale from June 13-17.
